PCF Gathering [May. 26th, 2005|10:21 am]
Celtic Jewel organized an AMAzING gathering of PCFs in the summer of 2002, held in Minneapolis, MN. We all had a great deal of fun spending the weekend together and I look back fondly on the memories (despite some drama that came from it.)

I am interested in hosting another PCF Frolic!! This time, I'd like to give more than one year's notice so that people can plan for and save for the gathering. I propose the gathering to be in the summer of 2006.

Since I live in Canada, I am also interested to see who might be willing to come all the way to Calgary, Alberta for the gathering. Things will be much easier to organize for me if it's local. map

Also, is anyone interested in assisting with the planning?

a little bitta glitta,

Trish D'lish

these made me laugh out loud [Mar. 26th, 2005|04:35 pm]
Dear God,
Is Reverend Coe a friend of yours, or do you just know him through the business? Donny

Dear God,
In Sunday School they told us what you do for a job. Who does it when you are on vacation? Jane

Dear God,
In school we read that Thomas Edison made light, but in Sunday School they said you did it first. Did he steal your idea? Sincerely, Donna

Dear God,
I do not think anybody could be a better God than you. Well, I just want you to know that. I am not just saying that because you are already God. Charles

Dear God,
It is great the way you always get the stars in the right place. Why can't you do that with the moon? Jeff

Dear God,
I am doing the best I can. Really. Frank

Dear God,
I didn't think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday night. That was really cool. Thomas

ok maybe not [Mar. 9th, 2005|10:39 am]
Memories of Perth-

no public toilets in restaurants or cafes, well that's not just Perth that's most of Australia

free buses through town

kids in uniforms everywhere, including the backpacks

"trading" hours

Hi all, I've been horrible at updating here I know. I just always seem to update the other journal. not sure why I have 2 anymore, except for being sentimental about what I had written here since the beginning of my livejournal days. Maybe one day I will transfer all of it to one place... lol when I have a lot of time on my hands, which seems like never!

It's a gorgeous day in Perth, I was up with the birds and took the Yellow Cat to East Perth where I had a nice toasted croissant and mochacino in a little streetside cafe, while reading the paper and watching the hunks in the construction site across the street.

I have been inspired to write again. A book about my life/my travels. I don't care if you think I can't write. I think I can. (that's just in case nay-sayers and meanies are reading this.) I let the opinions of others on lj quash my hopes before, 2 years ago but this time nothing they say can stop me from finding out more and possibly doing it. And if it is published, I will do a little happy dance in their faces. *snicker*

wax [Jan. 10th, 2005|10:20 am]
Ooh, off for a full leg and bikini wax this afternoon. I have never had the bikini area done but am tired of shaving bumps, particularly when wearing a bathing suit, which is why you get rid of the hairs anyway.

Have items to return and pick up before the big trip so I'd better get a move on.

I miss this journal [Jan. 10th, 2005|02:07 am]
I've somehow just migrated to [info]wandering_stars but I still miss the [info]redheadbarbie. I am way too lazy to frequently update both. I think what I will do is put personal stuff here and travel/public stuff on the other. So this will be mainly friends only.

didn't have time to leave my heart in San Francisco! [Jul. 27th, 2004|04:07 pm]
Somehow, I arrived safely at my hostel in Sydney around 9:45 this morning. It's Tuesday here.

I left Calgary in a tizzy on Sunday morning after getting up at 4am and then having a delay in my flight for three hours (fog in San Francisco, apparently it happens all the time.) Once in San Fran, Bri and Chris swung by to collect me and zip me around the Bay area. We went straight to PJ's for creole brunch and then to the Golden Gate Bridge, took pix, and to Lombard which is that hill that winds like crazy back and forth. the line of traffic to get up for the ultimate drive down was so long and straight up hill (in a standard shift jetta) that we decided to park and hike up and ultimately back down both sides of one of the steepest streets in San Francisco.) After that, we headed to Haight Ashbury for a little drive-by, and I tried in vain to buy some cheap film since I never did buy a digital. Finally I was loaded up again on film and we went to the "painted Ladies", that row of beautifully decorated Victorian Houses from the opening credits of "Full House", that Mary Kate and Ashley show from the 90's. Finally, we were driving down the boardwalk lined with huge Palm trees along Fisherman's Warf. It was sunny but we needed our jackets as we walked through the bustling crowds of tourists and crab shacks, breakdancers and tiny electric rental scooters which reminded me of the coin-operated helicopter I used to like to ride at the Halifax airport when I was a kid. It started to get later and our tummies were grumbling so we ended up at a nice seafood place called Chic's where I had the clam chowder and 1/2 dungeoness crab in garlic butter. A quick drop in to an internet cafe for my bank statement and a wee bag of mini donuts and I was being whisked back to the airport for my overnight flight. Boy did it ever get cold and windy as the fog rolled in! The bright sunset turned into a black and bitter evening.

The 'dash' in www.critter-sitter.com might be confusing to people if I am telling them the website verbally, so I came up with a few others. Thanks to everyone for voting!!

Australia [Jun. 7th, 2004|06:15 am]
My trip. How I have waffled. How I have waivered. How I have had difficulty facing my decision to go. But every time I resign to stay here and do the 'responsible' thing, Australia won't go away.

She knocks on my door through Men at Work on the radio, she creeps into my dog walking business research. She wants me to read books about her and join web communities and dream each night about her climate and her geography and her men. With accents :)

I have been talking with SM a lot lately, a woman who understands what it's like to feel the need to burst out of your own country and delight in the textures and tastes of another. She encourages me to go. To follow my bliss, hit the open road, take pictures of koalas, scoop ice cream on the Great Barrier Reef. It's great to have an encouraging friend who understands.

I wrote a hopeful email to Rita Golden Gelman, who publishes her email address in the back of her book, Tales of a Female Nomad. Her website is here. She wrote me back! read it here )

That was very encouraging to say the least.

Plus, my father reminded me that I am not yet 32 years old and that until I am, say, 50, I will have youth on my side. I am still able to do whatever it is I want with this gift of a life. My friend Laura, who is starting a spray-tanning business, told me that I would be able to recover from all of it even if I sold my property to follow this whim.

How interesting that the universe provides such reassurance that everything will be okay no matter what one chooses to do. And how reassuring that the people who come into my life all seem to think that I need to do the thing that feels like joy instead of the thing that feels practical.

I am determined to earn as much money as possible in the next 53 days and go full-steam ahead to the land down under.

I love Ikea so much I am going to apply for a part time job there. Could come in handy for the discount if I can't get to Oz and I end up needing to set up house again :)

[Current Music |MC Hammer- Whoomp there it is]

large coffee, orange

salad topped with hard boiled egg

cod baked with lemon, pasta with pesto

I have a call in to the airline ticket centre so I can get a good idea of what it would really cost to get to Australia- the cheapest travel possible. Heck, I would even go cargo if I had to.

so yeah [May. 20th, 2004|02:01 pm]
It's been raining for most of the week- which is fine, cause I like the rain. Plus it means no campfire bans for later in the year...
The streets of Calgary run amok when the Calgary Flames win and last night was no exception. Boob,s butts, people rocking cars, climbing onto rooftops- block after block closed to car traffic to make way for the "red mile", 17 Ave in the heart of cafe-trendy store town, jammed with fans wearing red to support our hockey team. I'm not much of a fan but the spirit's got me- we're going to the Stanley Cup!

Speaking of travelling halfway across the world...
I have 2 options.
1. Sell my truck to pay out the loan and see if my bank will then loan me $2000 more on my Personal Line of Credit which would be enough to buy a ticket. (money earned in Australia would go toward paying off Europe debt as well as keeping me in house and home there.) Desperately want to go, still.

2. Stay put, keep truck, keep job, continue to earn money to pay off Europe debt. Forget Australia as it's too late in my life to be considered a 'youth' for the working holiday scheme. Bed is made, now lie in it.

ciao tutti [May. 19th, 2004|11:52 am]
[Current Music |M's mini water fountain]

I know I've been absent lately... just not turning the computer on at home and super-busy at work.

Not much is new- I've connected with B and S this week. Old friends who've moved away from here that I don't get to talk to much anymore. Long phone conversations in the evening, both enriching me and taking away from my 'normal' routine.

But I did go for a fantastic walk last night in the warm spring air, with my walkman blasting my new workout CD and then took the stairs- the huge set that go right up the face of a cliff. Only stopped twice. Last time I stopped three times. My workouts are making a difference.

This morning's measurements made me quite happy. I've lost 1.5" off my breasts and .5" off my calf, among other spots. My waist is still the same. Damn waist.

And I'd love a sentence from each one of you on the following topic (if you have the time)!

How are you really?

every morning in the morning... [May. 12th, 2004|02:27 pm]
There are dads in Ramsay with piercings and tattoos walking their little ones to school, while smoking and wearing baggy workout pants with expensive sneakers. Their kids have uncombed hair, half-finished a bowl of sugar puffs, and may or may not have their homework done.

Then again, there are perfectly-coiffed Edgemont dads wearing Armani coats and driving their Escalades or Audis with the kids buckled safely in the back, after having eaten hot breakfasts prepared by the nanny, their outfits spot-free and their expensive schoolbags... I wonder if their homework is done?
